There are probably very few people in Riverside and San Diego Counties unfamiliar with BOTOX® Cosmetic. It has become an extremely popular treatment for wrinkles in the eye and forehead area, particularly the vertical frown lines between the eyes at our Dermatology Specialists offices in Murrieta, Fallbrook, San Marcos, Solana Beach and Oceanside.

Your Questions about BOTOX

What is BOTOX?

BOTOX Cosmetic is an injectable made from a purified protein produced by the clostridium botulinum bacterium.

What does BOTOX do?

When injected into the muscles of the forehead, BOTOX blocks nerve impulses and as a result weakens the muscles that cause frowning. Over a period of several days, frown lines will become softer and oftentimes completely disappear. BOTOX typically takes 3 to 5 days to take effect. It can be injected into the muscles that affect crow’s feet, forehead lines and frown lines.

How long do the results last?

With BOTOX Cosmetic, the effects on the targeted muscles will last from 3 to 4 months, at which time another treatment is required. After several treatments, however, results can last even longer.

Is this treatment safe?

BOTOX Cosmetic has been used successfully for over 20 years in ophthalmology and for over 10 years in dermatology. Side effects are very rare.

Does BOTOX affect any other facial expressions?

No. Only your ability to frown is diminished or eliminated. Muscles responsible for all other facial expressions are not affected.

Are there better ways to treat frown lines?

No. Currently, BOTOX Cosmetic is the best treatment specifically for wrinkles on the forehead and between the eyes. However, injectable fillers and chemical peels are also used by Dermatology Specialists, Inc. physicians to improve facial wrinkles in all areas.
