Photorejuvenation
What does Photorejuvenation accomplish?
Photorejuvenation reduces the appearance of blemishes and redness of the face,
while improving skin texture.
At Dermatology Specialists Inc, this is accomplished
with a topical solution (Levulan) followed by a light-heat energy (LHE) device.
How does photorejuvenation work?
Levulan, when applied to the skin for 30 to 60 minutes, makes the skin more sensitive to light.
This augments the LHE treatment which targets the pigment cells within a blemish and the
blood within the tiny surface blood vessels thereby improving the appearance of the skin.
What areas can be treated with this procedure?
Benign brown and red blemishes, broken blood vessels, uneven skin tone, rough skin texture and other skin conditions, caused by sun damage on the face, neck, chest, and back of the hands can be treated.
How many treatments will I need?
Usually 3 to 5 treatments are necessary, spaced 2 to 4 weeks apart.
What can I expect from the procedure?
The treated area will be red for about 3 to 7 days after the procedure. Some of the darker blemishes can become crusted after treatment, but these resolve in a few days.
Are there any limitations to the procedure?
It is imperative that sun exposure is completely avoided for 48 hours after the procedure. Over the next week, sun exposure should be limited and a sunscreen should be used.
What are the possible complications?
Photorejuvenation is a very safe procedure and problems are rare.
Complications include a lightening or darkening of the skin. Your practitioner will
discuss other rare side effects during your consultation. |
