Acne Phototherapy
What causes acne?
Acne is a very common problem affecting more than 90% of teenagers and about 25% of adults. Acne begins with clogged pores caused by build up of natural oils in your skin combined with skin cells shed around hair follicles. Acne-causing bacteria trapped in these clogged pores multiply, resulting in inflammation and other symptoms of acne.
How does acne therapy work?
A topical solution (Levulan) is applied to the skin for 30 to 60 minutes which makes the skin and follicles sensitive to light. A light and heat energy (LHE) device is used to activate the Levulan, which kills the bacteria and reduces the signs of inflammation over time.
How many treatments will I need?
Generally, 3 to 5 treatments are needed spaced (approx.) 2 to 4 weeks apart.
What can I expect after the procedure?
The treated area will become red for about 3 to 5 days after the treatment.
Sometimes, mild crusting can occur which quickly resolves.
Are there any limitations after the procedure?
It is imperative that sun exposure is completely avoided for 48 hours after the procedure.
Over the next week, sun exposure should be limited and a sunscreen should be used.
What are the possible complications of acne phototherapy?
Acne phototherapy is a safe procedure, and complications seldom occur.
Rarely, prolonged redness, swelling, blistering, or pigmentation change can occur.
n most cases, these resolve over time without any problem. |

How
LHE Acne Phototherapy Works
Blocked pores create a closed anaerobic environment,
which leads to rapid buildup of a P.Acne colony
under the skin. |

|
LHE
clears acne safely and effectively with a
series of concentrated pulses of light and
heat. The green wavelength light penetrates
deep enough into the skin to cause proliferation
of endogenic porphyrins, resulting in the
destruction of the P .Acne.
The concentrated pulse is up to 10,000 times
more effective in porphyrin activation than
the continuous wave light used by other light-based
technologies. The red wavelength produces
anti-inflammatory results.
The addition of heat, unique to the LHE method,
further increases the effectiveness by opening
the skin pores and enabling a faster chemical
reactions. |
